Dollar Store Pregnancy Test: Do They Really Work?
What is the difference between cheap and expensive pregnancy tests? You could have imagined the moment you take a pregnancy test at home and you find out you're having a baby. But probably never spent much time thinking of buying for a pregnancy test at the pharmacy in advance, looking at all the boxes and wondering which one to buy. Once you get to that stage, you'll see how many options there are in those shelves and how much they can vary in the price. But is it a costly pregnancy test somehow better or more accurate than a cheap pregnancy test? And what is the difference between cheap and expensive pregnancy tests? That's how to find out for you. Is there a difference between costly and cheap pregnancy tests? How are they different? All pregnancy tests work by measuring, a pregnancy hormone produced by placenta. It occurs in the urine of a woman, as well as in her blood as soon as an embryo implants in her uterus (six to 12 days after fertilization), and the amount continues to grow every day. But it takes up to about 19 days after fertilization so that hCG levels increase sufficiently high to be detected in a urine pregnancy test. When used correctly, most tests can collect hCG in your urine on the first day of your expected period. So what does the price variations represent between different tests? Some pregnancy tests may be more sensitive to hCG than others. Some brands may claim that your test can give you an accurate result as early as five to six days before your lost period. Some tests can also work a little faster — giving it results in a few seconds instead of a few minutes. The design features can also enter into play. Pregnancy test bars in plastic handles tend to cost a little more than mango-free pregnancy test strips. You can also pay more for a test with a digital screen compared to one without. And this may be indicating the obvious, but packages with more pregnancy tests tend to be more expensive than packages with less. (Most packages have at least two tests, but some offer five or more). Learn more about finding out you're pregnant How much does cheap vs. expensive pregnancy tests cost? Depending on the brand, sensitivity and other features, you can expect to pay somewhere between $5 and $25. Are these costly tests more accurate than cheap? All pregnancy tests at home are up to 99 percent accurate if you follow the instructions. That's as reliable as the urine pregnancy tests used in the doctors' offices. The key is taking the exam at the right time. When is that, exactly? You will have the best reading when you wait until the first day of your expected period. Testing too early in your cycle before enough hCG has been built in your urine could lead to a false negative. False positives may also occur, but they are rare. Testing very early could detect, where a fertilized egg implant in the uterus but stops growing before it is large enough to see in an early ultrasound. It may be possible that a more sensitive, and possibly more expensive pregnancy test can give them that I KNOW everything important or NOT a little sooner. But wait to use it until the expected day of your period will usually give you the most reliable results, regardless of how much cost your pregnancy test. In fact, even the fine impression on evidence claiming to give results five to six days before their lost period say that they are not 99 percent accurate until the day of their expected period. And since the hCG levels continue to increase, every additional day you expect will make the test even more accurate. What are the less expensive pros and cons of pregnancy tests? The main benefit is — you guessed — they're cheaper! But they work too. The less expensive pregnancy test results will still be up to 99 percent accurate when using them according to the manufacturer's instructions. As for the disadvantages? The cheapest options have less features that could make pregnancy tests more convenient, such as a plastic handle or shorter waiting time. They may also be more likely to have basic line-based screens instead of digital readings, which some studies suggest might be more difficult for users to decipher and interpret correctly. If a line on the screen is super weak, for example, you might find yourself wondering if the result really counts. Finally, a less expensive box could contain less pregnancy tests. So if you like the idea of reconfirming your results, it might be worth paying more for a box with more sticks or strips. What are the pros and cons of early pregnancy tests? A more expensive test could be more sensitive to hCG levels, which means you can be able to get an exact result before. But it's not a guarantee. No matter how much you pay, the chances of getting a false negative or false positive are greater when you test before the day of your expected period. There are also those extra bells and whistles. It is likely that you pay a little more for a digital screen, which could be a little easier to read and interpret. The same is true for testing with plastic handles or shorter waiting times. Another potential benefit? Pricier packs often contain more tests, which can be useful if you know you want to double-check your results or have additional hand pregnancy tests if you need to try again next month. What kind of pregnancy test is right for me? Since all pregnancy tests basically work the same way and are equally reliable if you take them according to the instructions of the box, what type is right for you depends on your preferences. If you want to try if you're pregnant a bit before the first day of your expected period, a more sensitive pregnancy test that can be used a little earlier could be right for you, as long as you're willing to pay for it and you realize it might not be as accurate as if you'd expected. If the budget is your priority, one of the cheapest pregnancy tests could be a better choice. And if you like the additional features that facilitate the taking and reading of a pregnancy test, then it might be worth paying more for those.
